Measure the section of cable or wire you need to cover and add at least 10–15% extra on each end for overlap. Standard polyolefin heat shrink tubing provides good moisture resistance and is generally suitable for light outdoor use — protecting wire splices from humidity, dust, and incidental water contact. The 60mm measurement refers to the flat width (lay-flat diameter). This corresponds to an inner diameter of approximately 38mm (≈1.5") before shrinking. This makes it well-suited for large cable bundles, conduit ends, battery terminals, and pipe insulation. For cables significantly smaller than 30mm OD, a smaller tubing size will give a cleaner, tighter result after shrinking.

Yes. Before shrinking, the tubing cuts cleanly with standard scissors or a utility knife. For the cleanest edge, cut perpendicular to the tube axis. Once shrunk, the material becomes firmer but can still be trimmed with sharp shears if needed. Pre-cutting to length before applying heat is always easier.

Color choice is often a matter of wire identification convention or personal preference. Black is the most common for general electrical insulation. Red and blue are frequently used for positive/negative polarity coding in automotive and marine wiring. Transparent allows you to see the underlying cable markings or labels after installation. Green and yellow are often used for grounding conductors or safety identification in workshop and industrial settings.
