When in doubt, size up — you can always apply more heat, but you cannot expand tubing that is too small.

A 2:1 shrink ratio means the tubing will shrink to approximately half its original supplied diameter when heat is applied. For example, a 20mm (≈3/4") tube will recover to roughly 10mm (≈3/8"). This ratio is the most common standard for general-purpose wire insulation and bundling.

Standard polyolefin tubing generally provides basic moisture resistance and is suitable for light outdoor use. However, it is not rated for prolonged UV exposure or submersion. For harsh outdoor or marine environments, consider adhesive-lined (3:1) tubing with a waterproof inner lining instead.
