The thread pitch and angle differ slightly, which can cause leaks or cross-threading if forced together. If your existing fittings are NPT, you will need a BSP-to-NPT adapter. If you are unsure which standard your system uses, check the fitting markings or measure the thread pitch with a thread gauge.

Yes — this is important. BSP parallel (BSPP) threads do not taper and do not self-seal. A sealing medium is always required. We recommend wrapping 2–3 layers of PTFE tape clockwise around the male threads before assembly, or using an approved pipe thread sealant compound. For gas applications, use a gas-rated sealant rather than standard plumber's PTFE tape.

Use an approved gas-rated thread sealant, and have the installation inspected by a licensed professional where required by code.

A standard pipe wrench or adjustable wrench is typically sufficient. Apply PTFE tape first, then hand-tighten the fitting, and finish with 1–2 additional turns using the wrench. Avoid over-tightening — excessive torque can crack the fitting body or strip the threads. A second wrench may be needed to hold the mating fitting steady during tightening.
