Measure the outer diameter of your wire or connector before shrinking. Because this tubing has a 2:1 shrink ratio, choose a size that is typically 1.2–1.5× the diameter of the object you want to cover. For example, a Φ4mm tube will shrink down to approximately Φ2mm. When in doubt, size up slightly — you can always apply more heat, but you cannot expand tubing that has already shrunk.

Quick reference: Φ0.6–1mm → 28–24 AWG fine wire; Φ1.5–3mm → 22–18 AWG; Φ4–6mm → 16–12 AWG; Φ8–12mm → 10–6 AWG; Φ14–20mm → large cables and connectors.

This tubing uses a 2:1 shrink ratio, meaning it will shrink to approximately half its original inner diameter when heat is applied. This is the most common ratio for general electrical insulation and cable management applications. If you need a tighter grip or adhesive seal, consider 3:1 or 4:1 adhesive-lined tubing instead.

Polyolefin heat shrink tubing generally begins to shrink at around 70–90°C (158–194°F) and fully recovers at approximately 120°C (248°F). A heat gun set to low or medium is recommended. Move the heat gun slowly along the tubing for even shrinkage. Avoid open flames, which can scorch or unevenly shrink the sleeve.

Standard polyolefin heat shrink tubing provides good moisture resistance and is generally suitable for light outdoor use — protecting wire splices from humidity, dust, and mild weather. However, it is not waterproof and does not have an adhesive inner lining. For fully waterproof applications — such as marine wiring, underground splices, or submersible connections — consider adhesive-lined (3:1 or 4:1) heat shrink tubing instead.
