Match the fitting's inner diameter (ID) to your pipe's outer diameter (OD). For standard thin-wall PVC pipe, the pipe OD typically equals the fitting ID. If you are unsure, measure the pipe outer diameter with calipers and select the matching size. For drainage applications, 110 mm and 160 mm are the most common sizes; for irrigation, 20–50 mm are typical.

A 45° elbow creates a shallower directional change, which reduces flow turbulence and pressure drop at the bend compared to a 90° elbow. In drainage systems, the shallower angle also reduces the risk of solids accumulating at the bend and causing blockages. Two 45° elbows can be combined to achieve a 90° offset with a lower pressure loss than a single 90° fitting.

Solvent cement is not included. Use a standard PVC solvent cement (PVC glue) rated for the pipe diameter you are working with. Apply PVC primer to both the pipe end and the inside of the socket, then apply cement, push the pipe in with a slight twist, and hold for 30 seconds. Allow the joint to cure fully — typically 15–30 minutes before handling and 24 hours before pressurising or filling the system.

These fittings use a solvent-weld joint which is inherently strong. However, the pressure rating depends on the pipe schedule, solvent cement quality, and cure time.
