1/2" & 3/4" BSP Male Thread Hose Barb Tail Connector — Stainless Steel

Match the barb diameter to your hose's inner diameter (ID). For example, a hose with a 12mm (≈1/2") bore typically pairs with the 12mm barb variant. When in doubt, measure the hose bore with calipers rather than relying on the outer diameter. A barb that is slightly larger than the hose ID will create a tighter, more secure grip once the hose is pushed on.

These connectors use BSP (British Standard Pipe) male threads in 1/2" and 3/4" sizes. BSP threads are generally compatible with most UK, European, and Australian plumbing fittings. They are not directly interchangeable with NPT (US National Pipe Thread) — the thread pitch and angle differ. If your system uses NPT ports, a BSP-to-NPT adapter is required.

Stainless steel hose barb fittings of this type generally handle working pressures in the range of 150–300 PSI, though the actual limit depends on the hose material, wall thickness, and whether a hose clamp is used. In most cases, the hose itself — not the fitting — is the pressure-limiting component. Always verify the rated pressure of your complete assembly before use in high-pressure systems.

For gravity-fed or very low-pressure applications, a push-fit connection may hold adequately. For any pressurized system — including garden irrigation, pump outlets, or pneumatic lines — a stainless steel hose clamp is strongly recommended. The clamp compresses the hose over the barb, significantly reducing the risk of blow-off and ensuring a leak-free seal over time.

Apply PTFE thread seal tape (commonly called plumber's tape) to the male BSP threads before installation. Wrap 2–3 layers clockwise around the thread, starting from the first thread and working toward the fitting body. This is the standard sealing method for BSP fittings and generally provides a reliable, leak-free connection without over-tightening.

These barb connectors are compatible with most flexible hose types including PVC, rubber, silicone, and polyurethane tubing. The key requirement is that the hose inner diameter matches the barb diameter for a secure mechanical grip. Rigid pipe (copper, CPVC, PEX) is not suitable for barb-style connections.
