Match the female BSP thread size on the connector to the male BSP thread on your valve, tap, or manifold port. Common sizes are 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" BSP. If you are unsure, measure the outer diameter of the male thread and compare it to a BSP thread chart — a 1/2" BSP male thread has an outer diameter of approximately 20.9 mm (0.82").

The barb tail should match the inner diameter (ID) of your flexible hose. For example, an 8 mm barb is designed for hose with an approximately 8 mm ID, and a 12 mm barb suits hose with a 12 mm ID. Always check your hose ID before ordering. A slightly snug fit is normal and helps create a secure seal.

For low-pressure or gravity-fed applications, the barb grip alone may be sufficient. However, for pressurized systems — such as mains-fed irrigation or workshop coolant lines — a hose clamp is strongly recommended. These connectors use BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads, which are not directly interchangeable with NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads. While the thread counts are similar in some sizes, the thread angle and taper differ, which can cause leaks or cross-threading. Use BSP-to-NPT adapters if you need to connect to NPT-threaded components.

Multi-packs are cost-effective when you have several connection points to fit — for example, a drip irrigation system with multiple emitter lines, or a workshop with several coolant hose runs. Thread the female BSP end onto the male thread of your valve or manifold by hand first to confirm alignment, then tighten with an appropriately sized wrench — typically 1 to 1.5 turns past hand-tight.
