Clear PTFE 4:1 Heat Shrink Tubing — 260°C High Temp, φ0.5mm–φ40mm

Measure the outer diameter of the object you need to sleeve before shrinking. PTFE 4:1 tubing shrinks to approximately 25% of its supplied diameter, so choose a size that is at least 20–30% larger than your target diameter. For example, if your wire bundle measures 3mm (≈1/8"), a φ4mm or φ5mm tube will generally give a snug fit after shrinking. When in doubt, size up — you can always apply more heat to achieve a tighter recovery.

PTFE heat shrink tubing typically requires temperatures in the range of 327°C–380°C (620°F–716°F) to initiate shrinking. A heat gun set to its high setting is generally sufficient for most sizes. Avoid open flame, as uneven heat can cause irregular shrinkage. Once installed, the tubing is rated to withstand continuous operating temperatures up to 260°C (500°F).

PTFE is inherently resistant to UV radiation, moisture, and most chemicals, making it well-suited for outdoor wiring, marine environments, and industrial applications where exposure to oils, solvents, or acids is a concern. Unlike PVC or polyolefin alternatives, PTFE does not become brittle with prolonged UV exposure.

The range of diameters (φ0.5mm–φ40mm) covers most standard wire gauges from AWG 30 down to large multi-conductor bundles and connectors. The 4:1 shrink ratio provides a secure fit over irregular shapes such as solder joints and terminal ends. For very fine wire (AWG 28 or smaller), the φ0.5mm or φ1mm sizes are typically appropriate.

PTFE offers a significantly higher continuous operating temperature (up to 260°C vs. typically 125°C for polyolefin), superior chemical resistance, and a lower coefficient of friction. It is generally chosen for aerospace, automotive under-hood, and laboratory applications where polyolefin would soften or degrade. The trade-off is that PTFE requires a higher shrink temperature and is generally more expensive per meter.

Wall thickness after full shrink varies by diameter but is typically in the range of 0.1mm–0.5mm depending on the size selected. Smaller diameters (φ0.5mm–φ3mm) generally have thinner recovered walls, while larger diameters (φ20mm–φ40mm) will have proportionally thicker walls. Yes. The tubing is supplied in 1-meter, 2-meter, or 5-meter lengths and can be cut to any shorter length with scissors or a sharp utility knife. Cutting before shrinking is generally easier and produces cleaner ends. If you need to trim after shrinking, a sharp blade works well on the recovered PTFE material.
