Match the barb tail diameter to the inner diameter (bore) of your hose, not the outer diameter. For example, if your hose has a 12 mm bore, select the 12 mm tail variant. A barb that is slightly larger than the bore creates a tighter, more secure grip; going more than 1–2 mm oversized risks splitting the hose end.

The female port uses BSP (British Standard Pipe) thread, which has a 55° thread angle. BSP and NPT (60° angle) are not interchangeable. If your existing fitting is NPT, you will need a BSP-to-NPT adapter. When in doubt, check your fitting with a thread gauge before ordering.

Yes. A2 (Grade 304) stainless steel provides solid corrosion resistance against rain, moisture, and typical garden water chemistry. It is widely used in outdoor irrigation and garden plumbing. For highly chlorinated water, salt-water environments, or aggressive chemical media, A4 (Grade 316) stainless would be a more appropriate choice.

For low-pressure garden or gravity-fed irrigation lines, a well-fitted barb often holds without a clamp. For pressurised systems — such as pump outlets or mains-pressure feeds — a stainless steel worm-drive or ear clamp over the hose end is strongly recommended to prevent blow-off under surge pressure.

Apply PTFE (Teflon) tape to the male thread that screws into this fitting's female port — wrap 2–3 layers in the direction of the thread. Alternatively, use a thread sealant paste rated for the media you are carrying. Do not apply sealant inside the female port itself, as this can contaminate the fluid system.

A2 stainless steel retains its mechanical properties up to approximately 300 °C (572 °F), so the metal body is not the limiting factor. However, the maximum working temperature is also determined by the hose material connected to the barb tail. Standard PVC garden hose is typically rated to around 60 °C (140 °F). Always verify the hose manufacturer's temperature rating before using in hot-water applications.

Use a spanner on the machined hex flats of the body. Hand-tighten first, then apply 1–1.5 additional turns with the spanner. Avoid over-torquing — stainless steel threads can gall (seize) if excessive force is applied. If resistance increases sharply before the fitting is fully seated, back off and check for cross-threading.
