Measure the center-to-center distance between your two pulleys, then calculate the required belt circumference: Belt Length ≈ 2 × C + π × (D1 + D2) / 2, where C is the center distance and D1/D2 are the pulley pitch diameters. For quick reference, 220mm ≈ 8.7", 400mm ≈ 15.7", and 1000mm ≈ 39.4". When in doubt, size up slightly — a belt that is a few millimeters too long is easier to tension than one that is too short.

The 10mm width is generally sufficient for light-duty applications such as 3D printer axis drives and small CNC routers. The 15mm width provides greater load capacity and is typically preferred for heavier-duty robotics, automation equipment, and applications where lateral belt stability matters. If your existing belt is 15mm wide, replace it with 15mm — mixing widths with a mismatched pulley groove will cause uneven wear.

HTD 5M belts have a 5mm tooth pitch with a curvilinear (rounded) tooth profile designed for high torque drive applications. GT2 belts also use a curvilinear profile but have a 2mm pitch and are optimized for low-backlash positioning. These two standards are not interchangeable — always match the belt tooth profile and pitch to your pulley specification.

Load capacity depends on belt width, the number of teeth in mesh with the pulley, pulley diameter, and operating speed. Generally, the 15mm width handles higher torque than the 10mm width for the same belt length and pulley size.
