Male Thread Barbed Hose Connector — M6 to M14 × 4mm–14mm Barb | Aquarium Air Fuel Line Fitting

Measure your hose's inner diameter (ID). The barb diameter should match or be very slightly larger than the hose ID for a secure, leak-resistant seal. For example, a 6mm (approx. 1/4") ID hose typically pairs with a 6mm barb. When in doubt, size up by 1mm for a tighter grip on the tubing wall.

These fittings use metric male threads (M6–M14) conforming generally to ISO metric coarse thread standards. They are not directly compatible with NPT (National Pipe Thread) or BSP (British Standard Pipe) threaded ports without a separate adapter fitting.

Brass barbed connectors generally perform well in damp or outdoor environments for moderate-duty use. For prolonged outdoor exposure or partially submerged installations, applying PTFE thread sealant tape (2–3 wraps) is recommended to maintain a watertight seal and prevent thread corrosion over time.

These barbed connectors work with most common flexible hose types including silicone tubing, PVC air line, rubber fuel hose, and polyurethane tubing. The key requirement is that the hose inner diameter matches the barb diameter you select. Rigid pipe (PVC, copper, steel) is not compatible with the barb end.

Working pressure capacity varies by size, body material, and the hose clamp used. For low-pressure applications such as aquarium air lines (typically under 5 PSI) and gravity-fed irrigation, these fittings are generally well-suited. For low-pressure applications like aquarium air lines, a push-fit connection over the barb is often sufficient. For fuel lines, pressurized irrigation, or any system where hose blow-off would cause damage, using a worm-drive hose clamp over the barb is strongly recommended to prevent disconnection under pressure.

Wrap the male thread with 2–3 layers of PTFE tape, then hand-tighten into the female-threaded port. Finish with a wrench (typically 1/4 to 1/2 turn past hand-tight — do not overtighten). Push the flexible hose firmly over the barb until it seats past the first ridge, then secure with a clamp if your application requires it.
