NBR TC Double Lip Rotary Shaft Oil Seal with Garter Spring — 8mm to 28mm Shaft

Measure your shaft's outer diameter (this becomes the seal's ID), the bore diameter in the housing (this becomes the seal's OD), and the housing depth (this becomes the seal's thickness). For example, an 8×22×7mm seal fits an 8mm shaft in a 22mm bore with a 7mm housing depth. Always measure before ordering — a seal that is even 1mm off will not seat or seal correctly. If you only have the old seal, measure it directly with calipers.

TC-type lip seals with a garter spring are generally designed for low-to-moderate pressure applications. They are typically rated for static pressures up to around 0.05 MPa (7 psi) and are best suited for dynamic shaft sealing where the primary goal is retaining lubricant and excluding contaminants rather than containing high-pressure fluid. For high-pressure hydraulic applications, a different seal type is generally required.

NBR rubber offers good resistance to water, oil, and grease, making it suitable for many outdoor and wet environments. However, NBR is generally not recommended for prolonged exposure to ozone, UV radiation, or highly acidic/alkaline conditions. For harsh outdoor or chemical environments, a Viton (FKM) seal may be more appropriate. In most standard outdoor equipment applications — lawn tractors, small engines, agricultural implements — NBR typically performs well.

These seals follow metric dimensions and are generally compatible with shafts and housings conforming to ISO 6194 and DIN 3760 standards. They are interchangeable with other metric TC seals of the same ID × OD × thickness. Always verify all three dimensions match your application before installing — metric and imperial seals are not interchangeable even when shaft diameters appear similar.

NBR rubber typically performs reliably in a temperature range of approximately -40°C to +120°C (-40°F to +248°F). Continuous operation near the upper limit may accelerate lip wear. If your application regularly exceeds 120°C — such as in high-performance engines or industrial ovens — consider a high-temperature elastomer such as Viton (FKM), which typically handles up to 200°C.

A TC seal has two sealing lips — a primary lip that retains lubricant and a secondary dust lip that excludes contaminants. An SC seal has only a single lip. TC seals are generally preferred for applications where both oil retention and dirt exclusion are important, such as gearboxes, pumps, and wheel hubs. If your original seal is a TC type, replace it with a TC seal of the same dimensions.

NBR seals are generally compatible with petroleum-based oils and greases, hydraulic fluids (mineral oil based), and water-based fluids. They are typically not compatible with synthetic esters, phosphate ester hydraulic fluids, aromatic solvents, or chlorinated solvents. Always confirm fluid compatibility with your specific lubricant's data sheet before installation if you are working with non-standard fluids.
