7×7 means the rope has 7 strands, each made of 7 individual wires (49 wires total). 7×19 has 7 strands of 19 wires each (133 wires total). More wires per strand means greater flexibility. The 7×19 construction is used on the larger diameters (6mm–12mm) in this range because those sizes benefit from the added flexibility when bending around fittings or pulleys.

Diameter selection depends on the load you need to carry and the fittings you plan to use. For decorative trellis or garden wire, 0.6mm–1.5mm is typically sufficient. For cable railing balustrades, 3mm–4mm is common. For heavier rigging or structural tensioning, 5mm–8mm is more appropriate. Always check the working load limit for the specific diameter and confirm your swage fittings, ferrules, or turnbuckles are rated to match.

The PVC jacket provides a barrier against moisture and helps slow corrosion of the steel core. It performs well in outdoor garden, patio, and general coastal environments. For fully submerged or continuous saltwater immersion applications, we recommend confirming the core wire specification before use, as the jacket alone does not make the cable fully marine-grade stainless.

The rope is sold in the fixed lengths listed (1M, 2M, 4M, 5M, 10M, 20M). You can cut it to a shorter length using wire rope cutters or bolt cutters — a clean cut prevents fraying. To seal the cut end of the PVC jacket, apply a small amount of heat-shrink tubing or end cap ferrule. We do not currently offer arbitrary custom-cut lengths.

This rope is compatible with standard wire rope fittings sized to match the cable diameter: swage ferrules (oval or round), wire rope clips (bulldog grips), thimbles, turnbuckles, and eye bolts. Always match the fitting bore to the cable's nominal diameter. For 7×19 rope at 6mm and above, use fittings rated for flexible wire rope rather than rigid rod.

Yes. The diameter listed (e.g. 3mm) refers to the overall outside diameter including the PVC jacket. The steel core diameter will be slightly smaller — typically 0.3mm–0.8mm less depending on the size. If you are sizing fittings, use the listed overall diameter. If you need to know the bare steel core diameter for load calculations, contact us to confirm for your specific variant.

Both colours use the same PVC jacket material and provide equivalent corrosion protection. Clear coating allows the steel strands to show through, giving a more industrial or low-profile look. Black coating provides a defined contrast finish that suits dark metalwork, powder-coated frames, or applications where the cable is meant to be a visible design element. Note that not all diameters are available in both colours — check the variant selector for availability.
