BSP (British Standard Pipe) sizes refer to the nominal bore of the pipe, not the actual thread outer diameter. For example, a 1/2" BSP fitting has an actual thread OD of approximately 20.9mm (≈0.82"). Always measure the thread OD of your existing pipe or fitting and match it to a BSP nominal size chart. When in doubt, 1/2" BSP is generally the most common size in residential plumbing systems.

Pressure ratings vary by fitting type and size. Smaller fittings (typically 1/8"–1/2" BSP) generally handle up to 150 PSI in water service.
