Match three dimensions: ID (Inner Diameter) = your shaft diameter; OD (Outer Diameter) = your housing bore; Thickness = your housing groove depth. For example, if your shaft is 35mm, your bore is 52mm, and your groove is 7mm deep, select 35 × 52 × 7mm. To convert from inches: multiply by 25.4 (e.g., 1.378" × 25.4 ≈ 35mm). When in doubt, measure the old seal with calipers rather than relying on part numbers alone.

TC skeleton oil seals are generally designed for low-to-medium pressure environments. They are typically rated for static pressures up to approximately 0.05 MPa (≈7 psi). For dynamic high-pressure applications, a spring-energized PTFE or cassette-style seal is generally more appropriate. These seals perform best in standard gearbox, differential, and pump shaft applications where pressure is not the primary sealing challenge.

NBR rubber offers good resistance to petroleum-based oils, water, and mild weather exposure, making it suitable for most agricultural and automotive outdoor applications. However, for prolonged UV exposure, ozone-rich environments, or contact with aggressive chemicals (e.g., brake fluid, strong acids), a Viton (FKM) seal is generally recommended. The secondary dust lip on the TC design does provide additional protection against water and debris ingress.

These TC oil seals are dimensioned in metric millimeters and are compatible with metric shafts and housings following ISO 6194 and DIN 3760 standards. Compatibility is determined by the three dimensions (ID × OD × Thickness), not by thread type. They are not designed for threaded fittings — they press into a smooth cylindrical housing bore.

Choose a TC (double-lip) seal when your application involves exposure to external contaminants — dirt, dust, mud, or water splash — in addition to retaining lubricant. The secondary lip acts as a wiper to exclude debris before it reaches the primary sealing lip. A single-lip seal is generally sufficient in clean, enclosed environments where contamination ingress is not a concern. For most automotive, agricultural, and outdoor industrial applications, the TC design is the safer choice.

NBR (nitrile rubber) typically operates reliably in a range of approximately -40°F to +250°F (-40°C to +120°C). Sustained exposure above this range may cause the lip to harden, crack, or lose its sealing contact. If your application involves continuous high-heat exposure (e.g., near exhaust components or high-speed spindles), consider a Viton or silicone-lip seal instead.
