A 3-pin switch is a single-pole type (SPDT or SPST) that controls one circuit. A 6-pin switch is a double-pole type (DPDT) that controls two independent circuits simultaneously with one lever movement. Choose 3-pin for simple ON/OFF or ON/OFF/ON control of a single circuit, and 6-pin when you need to switch two circuits together — for example, forward/reverse motor control or dual-circuit isolation on a marine panel.

These switches are rated at 6A at 125VAC and 2A at 250VAC (5A at 120VAC on select models). For DC applications, the current rating is generally lower than the AC rating due to arc suppression differences — typically around 3–5A at 12VDC in most cases. The switches themselves are not inherently waterproof. However, a compatible M6 Waterproof Cap (available as a separate variant) fits over the toggle lever to provide splash resistance for marine panels, boat dashboards, and outdoor enclosures. For fully submersed or high-pressure wash-down environments, additional sealing measures are recommended beyond the cap alone.

A 2-position switch has two stable states: ON and OFF. A 3-position switch has three stable states: ON — OFF (center neutral) — ON, allowing you to switch between two different circuits or directions with a safe center-off position between them. The 3-position configuration is commonly used for forward/reverse motor control, dual-light switching, or any application requiring two independent ON states with a neutral off in between.

These panel-mount toggle switches typically require a round hole of approximately 6mm (≈1/4") in diameter for the M6 threaded bushing. The included nut secures the switch from the rear of the panel. Always measure your specific switch body before drilling, as tolerances can vary slightly between models. The lever color is a visual indicator only and does not affect the electrical function of the switch. In standard panel wiring conventions: Red levers are commonly used for power or stop functions; Green levers typically indicate start or run functions; Black levers are generally used as neutral or general-purpose controls. Using color-coded levers makes multi-switch control panels easier to read and operate without additional labels.

For a single repair or one-off installation, the 1-piece option is the most straightforward choice. For small panel builds with multiple switch positions, the 3- or 5-piece packs offer a per-unit saving. For production runs, workshop stocking, or larger marine and automotive panel fabrication projects, the 10, 12, or 15-piece bulk packs provide the best per-unit value.
