How to Make a Minimalist DIY Wooden Clock ?

Finding a wall clock that perfectly matches your home decor can be frustrating and expensive. Generic plastic options look cheap, while high-quality wooden timepieces often carry premium price tags. This simple DIY project solves the problem by letting you create a minimalist, custom wooden clock tailored to your space.

Materials List

  • Square wooden board
  • straight-edge ruler
  • Fine-tip marker
  • Power drill with a wood drill bit, cleaning tissue, or a cloth
  • Quartz clock motor movement mechanism (with hour, minute, and second hands)
  • Set of 12 miniature decorative items
  • Strong adhesive glue
A square wooden wall clock with round, food-inspired hour markers (such as cereal and baked goods) hangs centrally above a rustic reclaimed wood floating shelf. The shelf holds a vase of dried pampas grass, stacked books, and a framed family photo. A textured cream-colored armchair is on the right, and a woven jute rug is in the foreground, creating a warm, artisanal living space.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Mark the Center.

Use a spirit level or straight-edge ruler to draw two diagonal lines connecting the opposite corners of the wooden board. The intersection of these lines marks the exact center.

Step 2: Drill the Mounting Hole.

Place a power drill perpendicular to the center mark and carefully drill a hole through the wood. Ensure the hole diameter matches the shaft of your clock mechanism.

Step 3: Clean the Surface.

Use a damp tissue or cloth to wipe away wood shavings, dust, and marker lines from the front and back of the board.

Step 4: Install the Movement.

Insert the clock motor shaft through the back of the board. Securely press the hour, minute, and second hands onto the shaft on the front side.

Step 5: Attach Hour Markers.

Apply a small drop of strong adhesive to the back of each decorative charm. Carefully glue them at the proper positions corresponding to the clock hours around the perimeter.
