A fast, no-tools-required hack to secure lightweight pipes using just zip ties and a simple wood wedge.

How to Fix Pipes with Zip Ties and Wood - HomeDIYer

When it comes to home maintenance or DIY projects, finding a secure way to mount lightweight pipes without specialized hardware can be a challenge. This simple DIY  trick uses zip tie and a wooden wedge to create a quick, makeshift anchor for light-duty applications.

Materials List

  • Zip Ties/Cable Ties
  • Wooden Pegs or Dowels
  • Hammer
  • Handsaw

Step by Step

Step 1: Prep the Anchor

First, drill a hole in the wall. Fold a plastic zip tie in half and insert the tail ends into the hole.

Step 2: Reinforce with Wood

Take a tapered wood wedge (or a small wooden stick) into the loop. Use a hammer to drive it firmly into the hole. The wedge expands the zip tie against the wall, creating intense friction that keeps it in place.

Step 3: Trim Flush

Cut off any excess wood with a handsaw, then tap it down until it sits flush with the wall surface.

Step 4: Secure the Pipe

With the zip tie now firmly anchored, place your water pipe against the wall. Loop the zip tie around it, tighten securely, and trim any excess plastic from the end.

This quick hack works well for temporary fixes or lightweight setups. For load-bearing or permanent installations, consider using proper wall anchors for added strength and durability.
