Select a diameter that is slightly larger than the object you need to cover before shrinking. As a general rule, choose a pre-shrink diameter that is 20–30% larger than the cable or connector outer diameter. For example, for a 2mm wire, a 2.5mm or 3mm tube typically works well. After shrinking at the 2:1 ratio, the tubing will conform tightly to the surface. When in doubt, size up — you can always apply more heat, but you cannot un-shrink the tubing.

This tubing generally shrinks at temperatures between 70°C–110°C (158°F–230°F). A heat gun is the recommended tool for even, controlled shrinking. Move the heat gun slowly along the length of the tubing to avoid hot spots. A lighter or open flame can be used carefully in a pinch, but may cause uneven shrinkage or surface scorching.
