A threaded stud (like these) has standard machine threads on both ends — it requires tapped holes, threaded inserts, or hex nuts on both sides. A hanger bolt has a coarse wood-screw thread on one end (for driving directly into timber) and a machine thread on the other. These M14/M16 studs are machine-thread-only fasteners designed for metal-to-metal or metal-to-insert connections, not for driving directly into wood.
Use the jam-nut method: thread two hex nuts onto one end and tighten them firmly against each other. Use a wrench on the outer nut to thread the stud into the tapped hole or insert.
