Select a tubing diameter that is slightly larger than the widest part of the object you need to cover. For φ0.6mm (unshrunk), the recovered diameter is typically around 0.3mm; for φ0.8mm, approximately 0.4mm. As a general rule, choose a size that gives you 20–30% clearance over the bare wire or connector before shrinking. When in doubt, size up — you can always trim excess length, but you cannot stretch a sleeve that is too small.

A 2:1 ratio means the tubing shrinks to approximately half its original diameter when heat is applied. For example, φ0.6mm unshrunk tubing will recover to roughly 0.3mm in diameter, forming a snug, protective sleeve around the covered component. The wall thickness increases proportionally as the diameter decreases, improving insulation and mechanical protection.

This polyolefin heat shrink tubing generally activates at temperatures starting around 70–90°C (158–194°F) and fully recovers at approximately 120°C (248°F). A heat gun set to low or medium is typically sufficient. Move the heat gun steadily along the tubing to ensure even shrinkage. Avoid open flames, which can scorch or unevenly shrink the sleeve.

Yes. The tubing is sold in continuous lengths from 1 metre up to 80 metres and can be cut to any length with standard scissors or a utility knife before application. Cut the piece slightly longer than needed — typically 2–3mm extra on each end — to account for any end pull-back during shrinking. Buying longer rolls generally offers a lower per-metre cost for workshop or production use.

Slide the cut piece of tubing over the wire or connector before making the solder joint or crimp — you cannot slide it on afterward. Position it centered over the area to be covered, then apply even heat with a heat gun using a slow, sweeping motion. The tubing will begin to shrink within seconds. Allow it to cool for 30–60 seconds before handling. In most cases, no adhesive or additional fastening is needed.
