M8 M10 Steps Knurled Thumb Screws, Aluminium Handle + Stainless Steel Thread Rod

Match the thread size to your existing tapped hole or threaded insert. M8 has an 8 mm nominal diameter and is common in lighter panel and jig applications. M10 is 10 mm nominal and is used where higher clamping load or a larger grip footprint is needed. If you are tapping a new hole, M8 is typically sufficient for panels up to ~5 mm thick; M10 is preferred for thicker stock or higher-load fixtures.

Measure the total thickness of the material being clamped plus any standoff or nut depth. The shank length (L) should be long enough to pass through the material and engage at least 1.5× the thread diameter of thread engagement in the receiving nut or tapped hole — so at least 12 mm for M8 and 15 mm for M10. Add clearance for any washers if used.

The stainless steel threaded rod provides good resistance to oxidation in moderately humid or occasionally wet conditions. The anodised aluminium handle also resists surface corrosion. These fasteners are not rated for continuous immersion or marine salt-spray environments. For prolonged outdoor exposure, consider applying a light coating of anti-seize compound to the threads.

The handle features a stepped knurl pattern machined into the aluminium outer surface, which increases friction between fingers and the handle. Hand-applied torque is sufficient for panel fastening, jig adjustment, and light clamping tasks. These are not designed to replace bolts in high-vibration or structural load-bearing joints — use a locking washer or thread-locking compound if vibration resistance is required.

The colour difference is the result of different anodising dye processes applied to the aluminium handle. All three colours share the same dimensional specifications and mechanical properties. The colour options are useful for colour-coding adjustment points on machines (e.g., red for tension, black for position locks) or for matching panel aesthetics in enclosure builds.

Yes. The stainless steel threaded rod is compatible with standard metric M8 or M10 hex nuts, flange nuts, and wing nuts. This makes the thumb screw suitable for through-bolt applications where a nut is used on the back side of the panel. Ensure the nut grade is compatible with stainless steel to avoid galling — use a stainless or brass nut where possible.

The handle and rod are assembled as a single unit. Under normal hand-tightening use, the joint is stable. Avoid applying excessive torque with tools, as this could stress the handle-to-rod interface. These fasteners are intended for hand-tightened applications only.
