Match the barb diameter to your hose's inner diameter (ID). For example, a 6mm barb fits a hose with a 6mm ID. For the male thread end, match the thread standard (BSP or Metric) and size to your existing fitting or valve. If unsure, measure the outer diameter of your hose and subtract the wall thickness to get the ID. Common garden hose inner diameters are typically 6mm, 8mm, or 10mm.

BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads — G1/8, G1/4, G3/8, G1/2 — are commonly used in plumbing, pneumatic, and irrigation fittings worldwide. Metric threads — M6, M8, M10, M12 — follow ISO metric standards and are typically found in machinery, automotive, and industrial fluid systems. Choose based on the thread standard of your existing port or fitting. BSP and Metric threads are not interchangeable.

'Equal diameter' means all three hose barb ports on the T-connector are the same size. This allows you to split or merge fluid flow evenly across three hose lines of the same inner diameter, without any reduction in port size at the branch. For a leak-free seal on the male thread end, it is generally recommended to use PTFE thread tape (plumber's tape). Wrap the tape clockwise around the threads (2–3 turns) before threading into the female port. Push the hose firmly over each barb until it seats fully against the fitting body. For a more secure connection — especially in pressurized systems — use hose clamps over each barb connection. The barbed design provides a grip that resists pull-out, but clamps add an extra layer of security for higher-flow or vibration-prone applications.
