Measure three dimensions: the shaft outer diameter (this becomes the seal's ID), the housing bore inner diameter (this becomes the seal's OD), and the housing depth (this becomes the seal's thickness). All three must match. Our variants are listed as ID × OD × Thickness in millimeters. To convert to inches, divide by 25.4. For example, a 45 × 65 × 10mm seal has an ID of approximately 1.77", an OD of approximately 2.56", and a thickness of approximately 0.39".

TC-type skeleton oil seals are generally designed for low-to-medium pressure rotating shaft applications. They are typically suitable for shaft surface speeds up to approximately 4–8 m/s and static pressures up to around 0.05 MPa. For high-pressure hydraulic circuits or very high-speed shafts, a different seal type is generally recommended — consult your equipment's service specifications.

NBR rubber offers good resistance to water, petroleum oils, and mild weather exposure, making these seals suitable for enclosed outdoor equipment such as agricultural gearboxes and axle housings. For prolonged direct UV exposure, saltwater immersion, or ozone-heavy environments, an FKM (Viton) compound is generally more durable. The secondary dust lip also helps exclude water and mud in field conditions.

These TC skeleton oil seals are dimensioned to metric standards, generally compatible with DIN 3760 and ISO 6194 bore housings. They are not designed for SAE or inch-standard housings. Always cross-reference the three dimensions (ID, OD, thickness) against your equipment's service manual or the original seal's markings before ordering.

NBR (nitrile rubber) typically performs reliably in a temperature range of approximately -40°F to +250°F (-40°C to +120°C). Short-term excursions slightly above this range are generally tolerable, but sustained high temperatures will accelerate lip hardening and reduce seal life. For continuous operation above 250°F, a silicone or FKM seal compound is generally recommended.

Clean the housing bore and shaft journal thoroughly. Apply a thin film of compatible grease to the seal lip and the outer bore surface. Press the seal squarely into the housing using a seal driver or flat press — never strike the seal face directly with a hammer. The primary lip should face toward the fluid (oil) side. Use a chamfer or installation sleeve on the shaft to protect the lip from sharp edges or keyways during installation.

NBR seals are generally compatible with petroleum-based engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic fluids (mineral-based), water, and most greases. They are not recommended for use with DOT 3/4 brake fluid, phosphate ester hydraulic fluids, aromatic solvents, or ketones. Always verify fluid compatibility with your specific application before installation.
