❓ FAQs – UNC Wing Thumb Screws
🔸 What is the difference between single wing and double wing?
Single wing (also called L‑shaped) has one protruding wing – great for tight spaces where you need to spin the screw quickly. Double wing (butterfly / T‑shaped) has two opposing wings – provides better grip and more torque for loosening and tightening. Choose based on your clearance and grip preference.
🔸 Will these screws fit standard computer laptop cases?
Many laptop and PC cases use UNC 1/4"-20 or UNC 3/8"-16 threads for thumbscrews on access panels, drive bays, and external connections. However, always check your existing screw thread size. These are imperial (UNC) threads – not metric. If your laptop uses metric screws (e.g., M3, M2.5), these will not fit.
🔸 How is thread length measured? Is the wing included?
Thread length is measured from the underside of the wing head (where the stainless steel rod begins) to the tip of the thread. The wing head itself is not included in the length. For example, a 1/4" x 14mm screw has a 14mm long threaded shank.
🔸 Will the anodized color fade or wear off?
Anodizing is a durable electrochemical finish that bonds with the aluminum. It will not peel like paint. Under normal hand use, the color will remain vibrant for years. Heavy abrasion or constant contact with hard tools may wear the finish, but typical finger tightening will not cause significant wear.
🔸 Can I use these screws outdoors or in wet environments?
The stainless steel threaded rod is highly corrosion‑resistant and suitable for outdoor use. The anodized aluminum handle also resists corrosion well. For continuous saltwater exposure, additional protection may be needed, but for general outdoor machinery and equipment, these are a good choice.
🔸 Do you offer other thread lengths or colors not listed?
We offer the thread lengths shown (10, 14, 17, 25mm) in Blue, Red, and Black. If you need a different length or color, please contact us – we support customization for larger orders.
