Measure the outer diameter (OD) of your existing pipe, then cross-reference with the standard UPVC pipe sizing chart for your region. These fittings are designed primarily for gravity drain, waste, and soil pipe applications. For pressurised water supply systems, verify the pressure rating of the specific size you need by contacting us before ordering, as pressure ratings vary by diameter and wall thickness.

Use a solvent cement (pipe adhesive) rated for UPVC. Apply a thin, even coat to both the pipe end and the inside of the cap socket, push firmly together with a slight twisting motion, and hold for 30–60 seconds. Allow the joint to cure fully before exposing it to flow or pressure — typically 15–30 minutes for light handling and 24 hours for full cure.

UPVC (unplasticised) and standard PVC share the same nominal pipe dimensions, so the fitting socket dimensions are compatible. However, UPVC is stiffer and more chemically resistant than plasticised PVC. For drain and waste applications both materials perform well; for chemical or UV-exposed environments, UPVC is the more durable choice.

Solvent welding creates a permanent chemical bond — the cap cannot be removed without cutting the pipe. If you need a removable blanking solution, consider a push-fit or threaded cap instead. For permanent terminations such as capping redundant branches, solvent weld is the correct and most reliable method.

UPVC has good resistance to moisture and soil contact, making it suitable for buried drain applications when installed to the relevant local drainage standards. For above-ground outdoor use, prolonged direct UV exposure can cause surface discolouration over time; this does not affect structural integrity in most cases.
