Measure the outside circumference of your old belt or wrap a cloth tape around both pulleys following the belt path. The A-belt number corresponds to the outside circumference in inches — for example, A-48 is typically 48 inches (≈1219mm) outside circumference. When replacing a worn belt that may have stretched, size down one increment. When in doubt, consult your equipment's OEM parts manual for the exact belt number.

The 'A' designation identifies the cross-section profile of the belt. A-section belts are generally approximately 1/2" (≈13mm) wide at the top and 5/16" (≈8mm) deep. This is one of the most widely used V-belt profiles for light-to-medium duty drives in both industrial and agricultural equipment. It is distinct from B-section (wider), C-section (wider still), and narrow-section belts.

A-type V-belts are generally rated for light-to-medium power transmission. Actual capacity depends on belt length, pulley diameter, shaft speed (RPM), and operating temperature. In most cases, a single A-section belt is suitable for drives up to a few horsepower at moderate speeds. For high-horsepower or heavy-duty applications, multiple belts on a multi-groove sheave are typically used. A-type V-belts are typically constructed from rubber compounds that offer moderate resistance to moisture, dust, and outdoor temperature variation — making them well-suited for agricultural equipment used in field conditions. However, prolonged direct exposure to oils, fuels, or harsh chemicals can accelerate degradation. Where possible, use a belt guard to protect the belt from debris and UV exposure, which will generally extend service life.

In most cases, yes. These belts conform to the standard A-section profile and are generally compatible with any A-groove pulley or sheave designed to RMA/MPTA or ISO standards. Before ordering, verify that your pulley's groove is designed for an A-section belt (typically a 38° groove angle and approximately 1/2" top width). Using an A-belt in a B-section or mismatched groove will cause premature wear and slippage.

Replace your V-belt if you notice any of the following: visible cracking or checking on the outer cover or sides; fraying or cord exposure; glazing (shiny, hardened surface) on the belt sides; squealing or slipping under load; or if the belt has stretched beyond the tensioner's adjustment range. Catching a failing belt early prevents damage to pulleys, bearings, and driven equipment.
