Wire Fixing Tip – DIY Cable Clamp with Heat Shrink Tubing

Wires running wild during installation? Stop buying bags of cable clips. All you need is a piece of clear heat shrink tubing, a utility knife, and a few screws. Cut a short section of tubing, slip it over the wire, and drive one screw – in seconds you’ve made a solid wire clamp that holds your cable tight against a board or wall. The materials are cheap and easy to find, and the result is stronger than you’d expect.

Materials List

  •  Wire (or Ethernet, lamp cord, LED strip)
  • Clear heat shrink tubing (slightly larger than the wire)
  • Utility knife
  • Small screws (self‑tapping)
  • Drill or screwdriver

Make a Cable Clamp in 3 Steps

Step 1: Cut the tubing

Place the heat shrink tubing on a board and slice off a short section with a utility knife. The cut piece becomes a small, slightly open O‑shaped sleeve.

Step 2: Slip it over the wire

Gently pinch the cut tubing open and push the wire through the slit. Slide it into position so the tubing wraps around the wire.

Step 3: Drive a screw

Lay the wire (with the tubing on it) flat on the board. Push the wire to one side of the tubing, then drive a small screw through the empty side of the tubing into the board. The screw locks the tubing down, which then clamps the wire tightly.

No need for store‑bought cable saddles or fancy tools. A short piece of heat shrink tubing, a knife, and one screw give you a rock‑solid anchor point in seconds. Try it on your next wiring job – you'll thank yourself.
