❓ Frequently Asked Questions – 3/8-16 UNC Thumb Screws
1. How do I measure the length of a thumb screw?
For knurled thumb screws, length is measured from the underside of the head (where the knurling ends) to the tip of the threaded stud. The aluminum head is NOT included. For example, a “3/8-16 x 20mm” thumbscrew has a 20mm long threaded shaft under the head. All our lengths follow this standard.
2. Will the anodised colour fade or scratch?
Anodising is a durable, integral finish that resists fading and scratching far better than paint. Normal hand use will not remove the colour. Avoid abrasive contact with hard metal tools.
3. Can I use these screws in a standard 3/8-16 tapped hole?
Yes – the 3/8-16 UNC thread is standard. They will fit any nut or tapped hole with the same specification. Perfect for PC case side panels, power supply mounts, and industrial equipment.
4. Are the threaded studs fully threaded? What about longer lengths?
Yes – all lengths (6–100mm) are fully threaded from under the head to the tip. This ensures maximum grip in blind holes or when using a nut.
5. Do I need a nut or washer with these thumb screws?
If your equipment has a 3/8-16 threaded insert or nut (common on PC cases), you don’t need an additional nut. If you are fastening through a plain hole, use a standard 3/8-16 nut. Washers are optional for load distribution.
6. Can I get custom colours or lengths not listed?
Yes – we offer custom anodising colours and thread lengths for bulk orders. Please contact our customer service with your requirements.
