Measure the gap between your two threaded fittings or pipe ends, then add the thread engagement depth on each side — typically 8–12mm per end for 1/2" BSP. 304 stainless steel offers good corrosion resistance in most outdoor environments, including garden irrigation, outdoor water supply, and light industrial outdoor plumbing. For coastal or marine environments with heavy salt-spray exposure, 316 stainless steel is generally recommended. These fittings perform well in non-marine outdoor settings.

These fittings use BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads — specifically 1/2" BSP, also written G1/2. BSP threads are parallel (BSPP) and are not directly interchangeable with NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads common in North American plumbing. If your existing pipes are NPT, you will need a BSP-to-NPT adapter to connect them.

For BSPP (parallel) threads, an O-ring face seal or a flat washer combined with PTFE (Teflon) tape is typically used. Apply 2–3 wraps of PTFE tape in the direction of the thread. Avoid over-tightening stainless steel fittings — galling can occur if forced. Hand-tight plus 1–2 turns with a wrench is generally sufficient for a leak-free seal.

These fittings are designed for water, air, and general fluid applications. The Female-Female (F-F) elbow has internal BSP threads on both ports — it connects two male-threaded pipes or nipples at a 90° angle. The Male-Female (M-F) elbow has one external (male) BSP thread and one internal (female) BSP thread, useful when you need to change direction while also extending a run or connecting directly to a female-threaded port such as a pump or valve body.
