Description

3M Timing Belt Pulley 40T–70T — Precise Power Transmission for Makers & Engineers

When your CNC router, 3D printer, or automation rig demands slip-free, backlash-free motion, the wrong pulley can ruin a project in seconds. Engineers, hobbyists, and machine builders who rely on 3M pitch synchronous drive systems need a pulley that holds tight tolerances across every tooth — and that's exactly what these 3M timing belt pulleys deliver.

Each 3M timing belt pulley features a 3mm pitch (GT2/3M profile), an 11mm belt-contact width, and is available in tooth counts from 40T to 70T. Bore options range from 5mm to 25mm (typically 5–25mm / 0.20–0.98 in) for plain through-hole variants, with optional keyway configurations (K 3mm–K 8mm) for positive shaft locking. The body is machined from aluminum alloy, keeping weight low while maintaining the rigidity needed for repetitive, high-cycle applications.

Typical use cases include CNC router X/Y axis drives, 3D printer extruder and motion systems, robotic arm joint actuators, conveyor indexing mechanisms, and DIY laser cutter gantry assemblies — anywhere a 3M synchronous belt is already in use or being specified.

Compatible with: Standard 3M pitch (3mm tooth pitch) synchronous timing belts, 11mm belt width. Verify bore diameter and keyway dimensions against your shaft before ordering.

✅ Key Features of These 3M Timing Belt Pulleys

⚙️
Wide Tooth Count Range

Available from 40T to 70T, covering a broad gear-ratio spectrum for speed reduction or torque multiplication in your drive system.

🔩
Plain Bore & Keyway Options

Choose a plain through-hole (5–25mm) for set-screw mounting, or a keyway variant (K 3mm–K 8mm) for positive, torque-resistant shaft engagement.

📐
3mm Pitch / 11mm Belt Width

Matches standard 3M synchronous belts precisely. The 11mm tooth-contact width provides a stable, even load distribution across the belt.

🪶
Aluminum Alloy Construction

Lightweight yet rigid aluminum body reduces rotational inertia — critical for high-acceleration CNC and robotics applications.

🎯
Machined Tooth Profile

CNC-machined tooth flanks ensure consistent mesh with 3M belts, minimizing vibration and extending belt service life.

🔄
Broad Bore Compatibility

Bore sizes from 5mm to 25mm (plus 6.35mm / 1/4" and 12.7mm / 1/2" imperial options) accommodate a wide range of motor and shaft diameters.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right tooth count for my application?

The tooth count determines the pitch diameter and, combined with your motor pulley, sets the drive ratio. A higher tooth count gives a larger pulley diameter, which increases belt contact arc and reduces tooth load — useful for high-torque applications. For a 1:1 drive, match the tooth count on both pulleys. For speed reduction, use a larger tooth count on the driven side.

What bore size should I select?

Measure your motor or shaft diameter precisely with calipers. Select the bore that matches your shaft — for example, a NEMA 17 stepper motor typically has a 5mm shaft, while larger servo motors may use 8mm, 10mm, or 12mm shafts. If your shaft has a keyway, choose the corresponding keyway bore variant (e.g., 10mm–K3mm or 12mm–K4mm).

What is the difference between a plain bore and a keyway bore?

A plain through-hole bore is secured to the shaft using a set screw. This is suitable for lighter loads and lower-torque applications. A keyway bore uses a machined slot (keyway) that accepts a key inserted between the shaft and pulley, providing a positive mechanical lock that resists rotational slipping under high torque — recommended for demanding CNC and industrial applications.

Is this pulley compatible with GT2 belts?

These pulleys are designed for the 3M pitch synchronous belt profile (3mm tooth pitch). While GT2 belts also have a 2mm pitch, the 3M profile is a distinct standard. Please verify that your belt is specifically a 3M pitch belt (not GT2 2mm pitch) before ordering. The belt width must also be 11mm to match these pulleys.

How strong are these pulleys — can they handle high-torque applications?

The aluminum alloy construction provides a good strength-to-weight ratio suitable for most CNC, 3D printing, robotics, and light industrial applications. For very high-torque or heavy industrial duty cycles, we recommend selecting the keyway bore variant for a more secure shaft connection. Contact us to confirm suitability for your specific load requirements.

Are these pulleys corrosion-resistant?

Aluminum alloy naturally forms a protective oxide layer, offering good resistance to light moisture and humidity. For environments with exposure to chemicals, saltwater, or prolonged moisture, additional protective coatings may be advisable. These pulleys are best suited for indoor mechanical and electronic applications.

Can I use these pulleys with a 15mm wide belt?

No — these pulleys are specifically designed for 11mm wide 3M belts. Using a wider or narrower belt will result in improper tracking, uneven tooth engagement, and potential belt damage. If you need pulleys for a different belt width, please contact us for alternatives.
