Yes, they perform well dry for rapid levelling and scratch removal. However, wet sanding is recommended for the finest finish and longest disc life. Water keeps the abrasive cool, suspends the sanding debris, and prevents loading. Youâll get more uniform results, especially on clear coat.
For moderate orange peel, start with 1000 or 1200 grit to safely level the texture without cutting too deep. Then work through 1500, 2000, 3000, and 4000 grit in sequence. This progressive approach leaves a gloss-ready surface that requires far less machine polishing â and greatly reduces the risk of strikeâthrough.
The velvetâsoft backing is flexible enough to follow gentle curves and contours, but like any sanding disc, it should be kept flat against the surface. Avoid pressing the disc edge into sharp body lines at an angle; instead, sand across the edge smoothly. When used correctly, the flocked backing holds up very well and does not tear or separate.
Typically, one or two discs of each grit are enough to colourâsand a fullâsize hood, provided you use them wet and clean them periodically.
