BSP 1/2" Brass Pipe Fittings — Adapters, Elbows, Tees & Connectors

Identify your pipe ends first — male (external thread) or female (internal thread). Then select the fitting that matches both ends. For example, a Male x Female straight connector (A1/A2) joins a male-threaded pipe to a female-threaded port. Elbow models redirect flow at 90°, tee models split or combine flow in three directions, and 4-way models handle cross-junction layouts. If you need to connect or disconnect without rotating the pipe, choose an Activity Nut model (A22–A32).

These fittings use BSP (British Standard Pipe) 1/2" thread, nominally 20mm nominal bore. BSP is widely used in plumbing, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems. It is generally not directly compatible with NPT (National Pipe Thread) — the thread angle and pitch differ. If your existing pipes are NPT, you will typically need a BSP-to-NPT conversion adapter.

Brass BSP fittings of this type are typically rated for working pressures up to 150–200 PSI depending on the configuration and application. Brass has naturally good corrosion resistance and is generally suitable for outdoor and damp environments including garden irrigation and exterior plumbing. In highly corrosive conditions — such as saltwater exposure or acidic media — additional protection or stainless steel alternatives may be more appropriate. For standard outdoor water or air line use, brass fittings typically perform well.

Yes. It is generally recommended to use PTFE (Teflon) tape or a thread sealant compound on BSP threads to ensure a leak-free connection. Apply 2–3 wraps of PTFE tape clockwise around the male thread before assembly. This is standard practice for threaded pipe fittings and helps compensate for minor thread imperfections.

An Activity Nut (also called a union nut or backnut) fitting allows you to connect or disconnect pipes without rotating the pipe itself. This is especially useful in tight spaces, behind walls, or when servicing equipment where the pipe cannot be turned. Models A22–A32 in this range include activity nut configurations in straight, elbow, and tee styles — in both male and female thread combinations.

Brass BSP fittings are commonly used with water and compressed air lines. They are also used in some gas applications, but suitability depends on the specific gas type, pressure, temperature, and local building codes. BSP pipe sizes are nominal — the 1/2" designation refers to the nominal bore (inside diameter of the pipe), not the actual thread outer diameter. A 1/2" BSP male thread typically measures approximately 20.9mm (≈0.825") across the thread OD. The easiest way to confirm is to measure the OD of a male thread or the ID of a female port with calipers, or to test-fit a known 1/2" BSP fitting.
