1. How do I measure the length of a thumb screw?

Length is measured from the underside of the head (where the knurling ends) to the tip of the threaded stud. The aluminium head is NOT included. For example, a “1/4‑20 x 15mm” thumbscrew has a 15mm long threaded shaft. All our lengths follow this standard.

2. Are the studs fully threaded? Can I get partially threaded versions?

All offered lengths are fully threaded from under the head to the tip. For partial thread (shoulder) versions, please contact us for custom options.

3. Will the aluminium head scratch my equipment?

The anodised aluminium head is smooth and hard. It is unlikely to scratch anodised or painted surfaces, but avoid dragging across delicate finishes. The stainless steel stud is fine‑threaded and smooth.

4. Can I use these outdoors? Will the stainless steel rust?

303/304 stainless steel offers good corrosion resistance for outdoor and humid use. The aluminium knob is also corrosion‑resistant thanks to anodising. For saltwater environments, consider 316 stainless studs (contact us for custom orders).

5. Do I need a nut with these thumb screws?

They are designed to thread directly into tapped holes (e.g., a camera tripod socket or a machine base). If you need to use them with a nut, select a matching 1/4‑20, 3/8‑16, or metric nut (M5, M6, M8, M10).

6. What colours are available? I only see black.

Black is standard. For other colours (red, blue, silver, etc.), please contact customer service – we can anodise custom colours for bulk orders.
