1. Are the washers removable? Can I use the screw without them?
The washers are pre‑assembled but can be slid off if needed. However, they are designed to stay on for convenience. Removing them may require a little force, but they are reusable.
2. How do I measure the length of a sems screw?
For pan head screws, length is measured from the underside of the head (the flat bearing surface just below the washers) to the tip. The head and washers are NOT included. So an “M5 x 30mm” screw has a 30mm threaded shaft under the head.
3. Are these screws fully threaded? What about long lengths?
Yes – all screws in this range (up to the maximum length) are fully threaded from under the head to the tip, ensuring maximum thread engagement.
4. Can I use these screws outdoors? Will they rust?
304 stainless steel offers excellent corrosion resistance. They are suitable for outdoor use in most environments – rain, humidity, and coastal areas. For continuous saltwater immersion, consider A4 (316) stainless, but for general outdoor applications, 304 is perfect.
5. Do the washers stay in place during driving?
Yes – the washers are captive on the screw. They may spin freely but won’t slide off the threads. When you drive the screw, the flat washer contacts the surface first, followed by the spring washer compressing against the pan head.
